The Shooting Sports Center is committed to providing firearms instruction in a safe environment to meet our customer’s needs.  Our detailed, hands-on handgun training is provided in a stress free environment with classes that are sized to allow you get all the personal attention you need.  All of our instructors are certified through the Smith & Wesson Academy Firearms Instructor course that is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education.

  • First Shots 1
    First Shots provides opportunities for newcomers to give handgun shooting a try. First Shots participants receive a comprehensive introduction to handgun shooting that includes safety, local ownership requirements, shooting fundamentals, hands-on instruction and how and where to continue. The events are listed at www.firstshots.org.
    • 3 Hours on the last Monday night of every month.
    • Free

    • Limited Enrollment to 20
  • Massachusetts & Connecticut Carry Permit (LTC)
    Students will learn basic shooting fundamentals along with safe handling and storage of firearms. Students will also be provided with up-to-date information on the current firearms laws of Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Upon completion, the individual will have the proper certification to apply for a Massachusetts LTC or a Connecticut Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers.  This course is offered both co-ed and “Ladies Only”.

  • Personal Defense Courses
    • Defensive Handgun Fundamentals - $100
      plus ammunition purchase. 4 Hours – offered monthly
      Instructor – Ken Frisbie and Jason Bathgate
    • Handgun Techniques - $150
      plus ammunition purchase and 7 Hours – offered monthly both co-ed and “Ladies Only”
      Instructor – Jason Bathgate and John Lawor
    • Concealed Carry - $300
      plus ammunition purchase and 2 Days – offered quarterly 1
      Instructor – Ken Frisbie and Jason Bathgate
    • Mike Rayburn: Law Enforcement, Military and Civilian Training
      • New 4 hour evening classes on multiple defensive shooting subjects including vehicle defense, use of cover and concealment, and how to deal with multiple assailants. - $100
      • Close Quarters Handgun (Instinctive Point Shooting) Levels I through IV - $175
      •  Combat Shotgun levels I & II - $175
      • Tactical Urban Rifle levels I & II - $175

      • Secrets of the Concealed Carry Snub - $275
      • Mastering the Concealed Carry Snub - $295
    • Tactics & Techniques - Class will be scheduled for groups by appointment only, call the Shooting Sports Center at 413.846.6400 for details.
  • Leagues/Competitions
    • International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA)
      Defensive pistol shooting as a sport is quite simply the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defensive scenarios.
    • Shooters competing in Defensive Pistol events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use. 
    • The Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center is host to the IDPA Winter Nationals in late February.
    • IDPA competes at the Smith and Wesson SSC on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 6pm. They also compete on the fourth Saturday at 9am. Please call ahead for detailed information
